CONTEXT AND DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

The incumbent is closely supervised on issues concerning external relations and public information by the Senior External Relations Officer who gives regular guidance and advice to the incumbent. Advice and operational support may also be received from other senior staff and support units at the country Office.
External contacts are generally with a broad range of officials from national and international institutions, media or general public on matters of importance to the Organization.

THE INCUMBENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING ASSIGNED DUTIES:
- Assist in establishment of close working relationships with television, radio and news agencies to promote and ensure the dissemination of UNHCR aims, activities and principles.
- Assist in development of working relationships with the Government, NGOs and UN Agencies in order to raise interest and develop co-operation in inter-related activities.
- Organize UNHCR’s public awareness campaign in the duty station.
- Draft bulletins and updates on UNHCR’s operations in the duty station.
- Brief national and international media of developments in UNHCR’s operations in the duty stations and accompany visiting media to the refugee locations where applicable.
- Assist in planning and organizing advertisements, exhibitions, training seminars, conferences, meetings, social events and other activities to promote a better understanding of UNHCR’s activities and accomplishments by the general public and/or organized groups.
- Assist in preparation of communication budget.
- Organize the distribution of UNHCR publications and the provision of materials to various institutions and individuals to respond to the interest of the public on issues related to refugees and other persons of concern.
- Produce reports for donor agencies as required.
- Perform other duties as required.

Digital Content/Marketing Copywriter (English Arabic)

 
Overview about Role Description:
Digital Content copywriters generally work alongside an art director within the creative department of a Digital Content and media or full-service content, UI &amp; UX operation unit. They work with client briefs to conceive, develop and produce effective Digital Content releases.
The art director deals mainly with the visual images of the Digital Content campaign, while the copywriter provides the verbal or written 'copy'.
This may include creating slogans, catchphrases, messages and straplines. They are also involved in writing text for web Digital Content, as well as scripts for printed and online advertising, radio jingles and TV commercials.
Copywriters also work with media planners/product managers and the production department to fully develop the Digital Content Platform.
- Job Role &amp; Responsibilities:
Digital Content copywriters often handle several client accounts at the same time, which makes the job varied and interesting.
Typical work activities may include:
• liaising with clients and interpreting their briefs
• developing creative ideas and concepts, often in partnership with the art director
• presenting ideas to colleagues and clients
• familiarising themselves with their clients' products and services, the target audience and their competitors' activities
• writing clear, persuasive, original copy
• updating digital media and advertising materials
• proofreading copy to check spelling and grammar
• amending, revising or redeveloping adverts or campaigns in response to feedback from the creative director, account team or clients
• overseeing campaigns through the production stage to completion

Working hours:
Working hours are generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. However, flexibility is required as it is normal to work long, irregular hours when meeting tight deadlines. This may include working in the evenings and some weekend work.
Copywriters are generally office based but may be required on TV shoots, radio recordings, castings or in editing suites. They may also visit clients, undertake research in public areas or visit different locations to help with creativity.
 
Qualifications:
This area of work is open to all graduates, although a degree or HND is not essential for a career as a Digital Content copywriter. It’s all about testing how talented and well-experienced the copywriter should be and much more related to his/her expertise and backgrounds.
Creativity and the ability to write well are key requirements for a copywriter, and so a qualification in the following subjects may increase your chances:

1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country. It also has a mandate to help stateless people.
Since 1950, the agency has helped tens of millions of people restart their lives. Today, a staff of more than 9,300 people in 123 countries continues to help and protect millions of refugees, returnees, internally displaced and stateless people.
UNHCR is looking for qualified candidates to coach and train staff members in professional editing/writing and reporting. The candidate will provide individual and group sessions to staff and extend her/is help when need.
Accurate and well-presented information will promote UNHCR action for refugees, contribute to good decision making, and advance a positive image of the organization.
2. Duties and Responsibilities

1. Coaching
- Carry out individual sessions for coaching staff members on improving their writing/editing and reporting skills.
- Provide feedback on internal and external UNHCR Egypt documents, emails, etc.
- Deliver immediate support on reports created by various units and provide advice for mprovement.
- Assist staff with their areas of improvement with regard to writing effectively and reporting their missions, projects and other relevant topics within UNHCR Egypt’s work context.
2- Training
- Deliver training for separate units on how to present their deliverables.
- Introduce modern writing and reporting techniques and provide proper training accordingly.
- Organize meetings with units for discussing their needs with respect to reports and work communications; design customized training programs based on specific needs.
- Perform other duties as required.
Part time: 20 hours per week.
3. Monitoring and Progress Controls
(Clear description of measurable outputs, milestone, key performance indicators and/or reporting requirements which will enable performance monitoring)
- General guidance and support are received from the Human Resources Officer. Guidance may also be given by the various specialised units in the office.
- The incumbent should be able to work under minimum supervision, be creative and innovative.
- The incumbent is responsible to report all deliverables to her/is respective supervisor regularly.
- Commitment to continuous learning about UNHCR and its areas of concern in order to provide proper support.

Editor- Referral Guide

General Background of Assignment:

Egypt is a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, and the 1969 OAU Convention. Nevertheless, as the country has not yet developed national asylum procedures and institutions, UNHCR carries out the functional responsibilities for all aspects of registration, documentation and refugee status determination (RSD) under the 1954 memorandum of understanding with the Government of Egypt. UNHCR Egypt offers international protection, and different kind of assistance which is provided through UNHCR implementing partners. This includes cash assistance, healthcare, food vouchers through WFP, education grants and vocational training.
The 180,000 refugees and asylum seekers registered with UNHCR in Egypt, are mainly settled in areas within Greater Cairo and the cities of Alexandria and Damietta.
Given the above context, UNHCR is preparing a referral guide and web-based directory, to facilitate the refugees’ abilities access to services.
Purpose and Scope of Assignment:

- Fully responsible of mapping all relevant services and organisations providing services to refugees in Egypt;
- Liaise with partners and relevant organisations to verify public information and addresses, including attributing geo-locations, collecting descriptions, and classifying information;
- Reviewing and editing exsiting content, drafting new narrative related to the functions of the partners and service providers to ensure print- and web-ready referral guide in different languages;
- Liaise with translators for Arabic, French, Amharic, Tigrinja, Oromo and Somali versions;
- Publish and upload contents to UNHCR Egypt website for refugees;
- Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
The consultant will work in close collaboration with the External Relations and Communications Unit in Cairo.
